Artful Splodger Sessions
Our regular Artful Splodger sessions are aimed at children aged between 18 months and 5 years. Each week we provide a number of activities for children (and the adults) to try within a broad theme. The wide range of activities includes tactile, role play and messy activities as well as the more traditional arts and skills. There are things to create and take home, and group activities to develop your child's social skills. The emphasis is on getting involved and enjoying the process of being creative. Being messy is part of that process, part of the fun and parents and carers needn't worry about clearing up afterwards.
Activities have included:
- painting and collage
- oil pastels, chalk and charcoal
- binoculars, paper fish and pirate hats
- experimenting with rice and bran flakes
- toilet roll squishy mixture and gloop
- making sandwiches, jam tarts and edible bracelets
- paddling pool painting
- compost, peas and tomatoes
- play dough, clay and putty
- jelly, spaghetti and soap flakes
- sand and water activities
We're an independent group and we tailor the activities to suit the children in terms of age, ability and what they have enjoyed in the past. We aim to build good relationships with the children and parents and this really helps us with feeding back into planning and running the sessions. We feel there's a friendly atmosphere for everybody, as parents and children do the activities together and socialise with others who come to the same session each week.
Sessions run for around 50 minutes, with 10 minutes at the end for drink and a biscuit, some songs and a chance for your little ones' creations to dry. We're more than happy for you to bring younger siblings, there's plenty of space in the hall for pushchairs and car seats as well as a safe area for babies too. Adult refreshments are available in the hall.
All materials we use are non toxic and we try as much as possible to use products that will wash out easily. Whilst we do provide aprons, things can get messy, so we recommend wearing clothes that don't matter if they get a little paint on here and there and that goes for the adult too!
Classes are planned and run by a qualified teacher and both Dawn and Gill have completed a full CRB check. We are fully insured and also members of the Pre-School Learning Alliance.
