Tiny Splodger Sessions

These new sessions are especially aimed at older babies and younger toddlers. We suggest that they will start to enjoy the sessions from when they are confident in sitting unaided up until the age of 18 months - 2 years when they are then able to join one of our regular Artful Splodger classes. You are most welcome to come along to see if it's right for you and your little one.

The sessions

We've carefully planned and developed activities specifically for this age group based on sensory, art and messy experiences that they will enjoy. Each week the six regular and varied activities will inspire fun and creativity yet all are safe and appropriate for older babies and younger toddlers.

They'll be loosely based on our popular older toddler sessions but we have tweaked parts of it to make sure that it is extra safe and appropriate for the younger toddler. For example we use a non - salt playdough and the paints are edible - it's unlikely that you'd want to, but as we all know babies like to check things out by way of their mouth! Instead of a formal craft activity we offer extra tactile and sensory activities so there are a lot of fun and messy ideas for your little one to enjoy. Our philosophy is very much about the process rather than the end product and this is always reflected in our activities.

The sessions offer a wonderful way for you to play with your child without too much worry about the mess. It's also a great way for you to meet other parents, doing the activities together in a small setting makes for a friendly atmosphere for all.

Practicalities

It can be a bit daunting, even if you're up for a little bit of mess trying to keep some sort of order! Here are some suggestions for you and how we try and help you as much as possible.

We suggest that during the session your child wears clothes which don't matter if they get a bit messy or wet. You may even find it easier for them to wear just a 'top' and their nappy. We do provide aprons but as some of this age group will be sitting they are more likely to end up a bit messy or wet and some children don't like the feel of the apron as an extra layer. Whatever system works for you, a spare change of clothes is a good idea. We do not accept liability for spoiled clothes.

You'll be given a clean flannel and towel at the beginning of the session for your child. Please feel free to use them to help clean up your child in the session and place in the washing basket at the end. If you prefer to bring your own then you are welcome to do so. We have bowls of water on standby which are changed regularly.

Duration
The Tiny Splodger session lasts for 45 minutes, starting at 11:00am on both Wednesday and Friday.

Costs
These sessions cost just £2 per child and there is no need to pre-book although you are welcome to do so to secure your child's place. This includes all activities, aprons, flannels, towels and water or juice for the children. We're more than happy for you to bring younger siblings, there's plenty of space in the hall for pushchairs and car seats as well as a safe area for babies too. Adult refreshments are available in the hall.

Classes are planned and run by a qualified teacher and both Dawn and Gill have completed a full CRB check. We are fully insured and also members of the Pre-School Learning Alliance.
